Math Talks in 2nd Grade!

We often warm up our math minds with some fancy thinking as we explore relationships with numbers and talk about our problem solving processes..... Here are a couple of examples of these math talks where kids are presented with an equation and asked to find an answer mentally.  As they talk through their thinking, we scribe - showing our young mathematicians how their thinking looks in math language.  

 

Here we were looking for different combinations of coins to show 38 cents.  Children displayed various combinations of quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies.  They were pretty proud of themselves for dipping their toes into multiplication!  Woo hoo!
